Latest release (September 2026)

26.9.0 upgrades the GroupDocs.Metadata engine from 26.6 to 26.8. The package now installs a groupdocs-metadata command line, reads five more archive formats, opens PowerPoint files again on every platform, and no longer needs libgdiplus on Linux or macOS. The 26.8 engine moved 105 format classes into their parent modules — see the full notes for the old and new import paths.

Highlights

  • Command line — groupdocs-metadata info, show, clean, remove, export and list-formats, for shells, Make rules and CI steps.
  • New archive formats — Apple Archive (AAR), GZIP, BZ2, XZ and Zstandard, each with its own root package in groupdocs.metadata.formats.archive.
  • PowerPoint files open again — the native library presentations need ships in every wheel (METADATAPYTHON‑50).
  • Format classes moved — the Ogg, FB2, Mobi, MSG, DNG, SVG, raw tag, CR2 and 3D classes now live in their parent modules, as in the .NET engine. Code that imports from the 13 old modules must change its imports.
  • No libgdiplus — Linux needs only ICU and fontconfig.
  • Python 3.5 – 3.14 — 3.5 to 3.7 work again, and reading an EXIF tag by TiffTagID works on 3.5 – 3.10 (METADATAPYTHON‑51).
  • Patched .NET runtime — the embedded runtime moves from 10.0.0 to 10.0.12, with Microsoft’s servicing and security fixes.
  • Wheels state the system they need — Linux x64 with glibc 2.27+, macOS 12+; pip 20.3 or newer refuses an older system up front.

Wheel distribution

Four platform-specific wheels per release — Windows x64, Linux x64 (manylinux_2_27), macOS Intel and Apple Silicon (macosx_12_0). pip 20.3 or newer automatically selects the right wheel for your platform.
